- FPS Guidance Note: The Design of Bored Piles in Chalk
FPS considers CIRIA report PR11 may give conservative designs for piles
founded in good chalk. CIRIA report PR86 published in 2003 represents an
advance in the design of piles in chalk but does not fully address discrepancies
between the perceived behaviour of piles and chalk and the design method
recommended in the PR11. The only way to find an enduring solution is to
obtain more data from tests taken to failure. This FPS paper reviews PR11
and PR86 and proposes how to deal with the problem until more data is
available.
