Apart football being awesome, the FPS 5-a-Side Football Tournament will be a great way for the FPS to engage with people that haven’t traditionally had an opportunity to come along to committees or social events. Most importantly it will put FPS events in the context of healthy activities and we can start to change the industry culture, as is the intention of the FPS’s Occupational Health and Wellbeing Charter.
The event is open both full and associate members with the launch event planned for Essex, but other events will soon follow in the Midlands and Scotland, before a final later in the year. If popular is could become an annual event.
The first event will be held at Chingford Goals Centre, 3 Morrison Ave, London E4 8SN, on Friday 20th March 2020, from 5pm to 8pm. Interest has already been great and there will be a men’s and women’s competition too.
Like all good ‘footy’ events, the FPS Five-a-Side tournament will have a typical Group style phase, followed by a knock-out element. Sure to be good fun, the event will not only be a showcase for those dreaming of alternative careers in the Premiership, but should also raise money for the FPS’s 2020 charity partner ‘Mates in Mind’.
Each team will consist of 8 players maximum, 5 players minimum (though this is not advised) plus three subs and post-match there will be access to the bar area at the centre. Team members should provide their own kit, but bibs will be supplied (by venue) to distinguish teams. Pitches are artificial, so it is suggested that players wear long tracksuit style bottoms and trainers.
