The Federation of Piling Specialists’ (FPS) innovative Piling Data Sharing Map has been shortlisted at the GE GeoTech Awards 2026.
The map has been named as a finalist in the “Best Use of Data: Application category”, which recognises innovative uses of data that improve decision-making, design, risk management, maintenance, sustainability or wider project outcomes.
Developed by the FPS, the interactive map provides a central, accessible record of piling projects undertaken by FPS members across the UK and Ireland. By allowing users to identify previous piling activity and relevant member experience, the map provides a useful starting point for early project discussions, technical enquiries and further investigation.
It also has potential relevance to the growing industry focus on foundation reuse with identification of previous piling activity at or near a site potentially prompting early consideration of possible further investigation of existing foundations.
The map does not, by itself, provide evidence that existing piles are suitable for reuse. Any reuse proposal would require appropriate records, investigation, testing, analysis and engineering assessment. The level to which this data is shared and available remains up to member discretion.
The FPS Piling Data Sharing Map was developed through the FPS Commercial Committee as part of the Federation’s wider commitment to improving access to industry information, supporting better-informed decisions and encouraging more efficient and sustainable approaches to foundation engineering.
The GE GeoTech Awards celebrate the projects, technologies, organisations and individuals helping to advance innovation within the geotechnical and ground engineering sectors.
The winners will be announced at GE GeoTech 2026, taking place at The Kia Oval, London, on 1 October 2026.
