The Federation of Piling Specialists (FPS) Sustainability Committee convened on 8th October 2025, chaired by Stuart Norman (Keltbray), the meeting focused on carbon reporting progress, collaboration with the EFFC, low-carbon materials, and the FPS Digital Map project.
Key Updates and Actions:
- Company and Project Carbon Reporting – Reporting engagement remains inconsistent. The committee noted confusion among FPS members regarding dual submission methods (spreadsheet vs online form). FPS will renew communication to clarify requirements.
- Sustainability Guides and CSRD Alignment – The EFFC-DFI suite of sustainability guides continues to expand. Published guides include Carbon and Circular Economy, whilst others in progress cover Climate Adaptation, Water, Nature, Well-being, and EDI.
- Carbon Metrics Working Group – Presentation slides are being prepared to share carbon metrics and early data insights with FPS managing directors.
- Low Carbon Materials and AMC Collaboration – An update was presented on engagement with the Advanced Market Commitment (AMC) Working Group, promoting industry pledges to purchase low-carbon materials. Scottish Water has become the first major client signatory.
- AMC Collaboration – The committee supported FPS becoming an AMC “supporting organisation” to demonstrate leadership without binding purchasing commitments.
- Anti-Idling Initiative – Current status and progress of the FPS Anti-Idling group to be reported on at the next meeting.
- Digital Data Map Project – It was confirmed that the FPS Digital Data Map Project, delivered by 1Spatial, has completed its kick-off phase. A visual prototype is expected for the November meeting, encouraging members to submit data.
- Pile Reuse Summary and Publication – A condensed executive summary of the FPS Pile Reuse Document has been completed and will be reviewed. The final version will be formatted with FPS branding for publication.
