Success of the ‘Rig Bearing Pressure Spreadsheet’ Seminars

The recent Rig Bearing Pressure Spreadsheet Seminars, commissioned by the FPS and run by Remedy Geotechnics, were a tremendous success. The two half-day sessions, held 7th December 2017, were designed to equip engineers with the tools required to calculate the bearing pressures exerted by piling and drilling rigs needed for the safe design of working platforms.

Over 40 engineers attended the half-day seminars to learn how to use the FPS track bearing pressure calculation tool. With course convener Derek Egan saying, “Whilst, in the interest of promoting safety, the FPS has made its Excel bearing pressure spreadsheet freely available on the FPS website, it is essential however that it is only used by competent individuals.’ Derek added ‘the engineers who attended the seminars will better understand the background and theory behind the calculations, thus ensuring they are better placed to use the spreadsheet tool accurately and efficiently.

The seminars were held at the Derby Conference Centre, with many companies attending including: JRL Civil Engineering; Arup; Expanded Piling; Bauer Technologies; Roger Bullivant, Van Elle; Bachy Soletanche/Vibro Menard; Murphy Group; Balfour Beatty Ground Engineering; Cementation Skanska; Aarsleff; FK Lowry; Pile Designs and Skelair International.
