Construction Youth Trust Session Review

The Federation of Piling Specialists (FPS) had its first session with the Construction Youth Trust (CYT) on 18th September 2020, and through a presentation titled “Introduction to Careers in Construction”, participants had the opportunity to meet a variety of industry professionals, as well as learn about their roles and their career path.

Held via Zoom, and lasting roughly 90 minutes, the session was extremely well received and attracted a number of key professionals, including Keltbray’s Community Engagement manager Lloyd Graham, who spoke about his career path and the work he undertakes on behalf of Keltbray.

David Major, FPS Early Careers Group Lead, used the session to present ground engineering as a viable option for youngsters looking for a career within construction. David took attendees through a typical day in his work life, as well as looking at what rewards working in the sector has brought about and of the personal achievements he has made.

David has since signed up to become a volunteer for the Southwark programme, and is keen to promote the volunteer scheme and encourage others within the FPS to become involved.

The session with the CYT, and David’s thoughts on its success, will be reviewed at the next FPS quarterly meeting, as well as forming part of discussions at the next Early Careers Group (ECG) meeting, being held 6th October 2020.
