The Federation of Piling Specialists (FPS) Early Careers Group (ECG) is launching an educational initiative targeting universities, colleges, and secondary schools, with information about the opportunities and potential of careers in the piling and geotechnical sectors.
The launch follows the success of a number of recent presentations on the topic, delivered to students of Bath and South Bank universities, by former ECG Chair David Major (Expanded Piling), new ECG Chair Julia Hill (Roger Bullivant) and Vice ECG Chair Laylee Eftekhar (Bauer Technologies).
Taking the next step in the programme, formally launching it, will allow greater engagement with educational establishments, as well as allowing the initiative wider reach through its promotion.
With so much competition looking to attract young people’s future careers, the initiative will help place piling, geotechnics and even the wider construction sector in front of this audience, allowing those ‘still undecided’ or looking for career options the ability to discover first-hand the industry’s offering.
The initiative will typically cover topics including, what is the ground engineering industry; what type of work it undertakes; and what a career in the industry can offer.
The programme is one of the FPS’s core aims; to encourage new young talent into the industry and longer-term help address the ever-present skills shortage the construction sector faces.
