FPS Shortlisted for GE Award 2021

The Federation of Piling Specialists (FPS) is delighted to be shortlisted for its ‘Plant Restricted Zones Handbook’, in the Health & Safety category of the 2021 Ground Engineering Awards, which are being held 23rd November 2021 at The Brewery. London

The publication is available FREE to download from the FPS website and has been produced to assist FPS members in managing restricted zones around plant and equipment usually found in a piling and specialist foundations worksite, as well as the importance of understanding that sufficient space is provided to enable safe operations and the effective separation of people and operational plant.

With some 40% of all incidents occurring in the high-risk red zone around rigs, this is a serious issue and something the FPS feels must be addressed. Being shortlisted in the Health & Safety category recognises the importance of the issue and the work the FPS is doing to tackle it.

In fact, it is hoped the handbook will cut the risk of fatalities and serious injuries around piling rigs and specialist plant, as well as highlight that enduring message that “people and plant don’t mix”. The guidance is for a wide audience too, applying to operatives, managers, and clients.

The 44-page colourful handbook highlights the dos and don’ts of safe access, as well as providing clear and concise illustrations of typical working situations with Red Zones “Authorised Person only” and Green Zones identified. It reminds that everyone should approach the machine from the green zone and before entering the red zone and highlight your presence to the plant operator / driver with a “Thumbs UP” that is acknowledged by the operator before entering Red Zone.
